Social networking websites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and others are tools that you can use to establish a job hunting network without having to “perform” face-to-face or feel like you are begging. While that sounds very tempting, it should not be your principal or only networking strategy.
Close to 100 percent of legal employers now consult social media sites when recruiting candidates. More than half of employers I informally surveyed said that something they had learned on a candidate’s social media sites had been determinative of their hiring decisions.
It is best if you limit yourself to a professional social media site such as LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com). Other sites can often do you more harm than good.
